The NSW Adult Migrant English Service (AMES), part of the Department of Education and Training, has signed a Think Smart partnership agreement that will ensure its students have ready access to multilingual Fair Trading resources, as well as support services and advice.

New AMES Teaching Centre opens in Chatswood

Chatswood Mayor Councillor Patrick Reilly officially opened the New AMES Chatswood center today. Migrants in the northern Sydney area now have a new Adult Migrant English Service Centre (NSW AMES) servicing their needs, Director, Community and Migrant Education Helen de Silva Joyce announced today.

Ms de Silva Joyce said the Chatswood NSW AMES Centre would offer free English classes for eligible migrants.

Migrants to graduate with job-ready skills

Four classes of newly settled migrants and refugees will graduate with dual qualifications in English and vocational skills on 1 February 2008. Parliamentary Secretary for Multicultural Affairs and Settlement Services, the Honorable Laurie Ferguson, MP will attend the graduation ceremony to acknowledge the students’ success.

Changes to the Certificates I, II, III and IV in Spoken and Written English

Licences and curriculum documents for the new Certificates I, II, III and IV in Spoken and Written English will be available for purchase online through this website from 3 March 2008.

The current Certificates I – IV in Spoken and Written English expire on 30 June 2008.
