NSW AMES was successful in its application for funds through the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) Investing in Community Education and Training (ICET) Program. These funds will provide six classrooms in NSW AMES centres with Smartboards, projectors and student interactive devices. Computer consoles will also be installed in a number of classrooms throughout AMES centres.
This technology will enhance language, literacy and numeracy, employability and vocational skills training for newly arrived migrants and refugees. It will also enable the contemporary workplace to be brought directly into the classroom through video and link-ups with workplaces and enable students to develop employability skills by, for example, developing technology skills and undertaking team-based online projects.
The first training in the use of smartboards was held in October 2009. Once installation is complete NSW AMES hopes to lead the TESOL field by researching the use of smartboards with Pre-CSWE students.
Progress of this exciting program will be regularly updated in the news section of this website.
Plaques are erected in each NSW AMES centre to acknowledge DEEWR funding. June 2010.
